Nestled on a ridge between Huntington and Barboursville, West Virginia, there is a church, and inside the church, there is a family. The family is made up of people from all different ages and stages of life, and they welcome all who enter. Their hope is that those just passing through will want to visit again and those looking for a place to belong will find their home with them.
Lewis Memorial Baptist Church (LMBC) was established in 1942 and is easily accessible from the interstate which allows people to connect with them from all over the tri-state area. Their campus consists of a Worship Center, which houses the sanctuary, offices, children’s church auditorium, and classrooms. You will also find a Student Ministry Building, with everything from a café to classrooms and a full auditorium. The Family Life Center, once the site of the church, now consists of a fellowship hall, offices, and a gymnasium. There is also a Food and Clothing Pantry, and a Mission House. There is shuttle service as well as parking attendants every Sunday and handicap accessible parking on all of our lots.
The church offers three Sunday worship services, where applications from the scriptures guide believers in all walks of life. Each service is a blend of modern and traditional music with classic hymns and contemporary Christian praise.
Coming to church is just the beginning, getting involved in one of their Life Groups is the key to connecting. There is a Life Group for everyone, from the very young to the aged. Children’s groups are offered on Sundays and Wednesdays on the church campus, while teens and adults meet throughout the week at various locations on and off the church campus. They also offer a group for those with special needs.
While worshiping and growing together in groups is vital, the goal of LMBC is to reach out with His love to those who do not know Him. They have a television ministry that reaches thousands every week. However, they also reach outside the church in a variety of practical ways such as hosting after-school clubs in some of the local elementary schools, as well as filling backpacks weekly for needy children in local schools. They have a brown-bag program for prostitutes, a food and clothing pantry that ministers to the community, and a group that regularly takes food and clothing to those who can’t come to the church.
