"Full" Service

from Acts 1:8

Most Christians understand that living the Christian life takes more than mere human effort. To truly accomplish what God has given us to do and to live in a Christ-like manner requires a divine enablement that comes by way of the Holy Spirit who indwells the believer.

An illustration of this may give you a better mental picture of what God wants to do in your life. Think of yourself as a reservoir for producing electrical power, holding millions of gallons of water. At the moment you accepted Christ, construction on your reservoir was completed and now you have the potential to be useful in God’s service and successful in living for Him. However, until the flood gates are opened and the cascading river pours through, no power is realized from the reservoir.

In a similar manner, when God’s children open their lives to Him and allow Him to flow through them He continually fills the reservoir with an endless supply of His power that flows out of them to effective service and Christ-like living. The secret to the Christian life is not greater effort and more discipline, but it is being available to God to be a channel of His power in this world.

The problem we face today is becoming so contented with our mediocre living that we no longer desire the flow of God’s power through our lives. When we begin to hunger and thirst for a fresh touch of God’s divine presence and power we will again see what God can do through our lives, rather than what we can produce in our own energy.
