Description
"The word AWANA stands for Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed and comes from 2 Timothy 2:15 - ""Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.""

The Lewis Memorial Awana program began in the fall of 1993. We started with 58 children and 20 leaders and each year that number has grown by leaps and bounds! Each Wednesday program is divided into three parts:

Handbook Time (memorizing and quoting scripture)
Game Time
Counsel (Lesson) Time

Over the years, we have participated in Bible Quizzes, Grand Prix Races, Spark-A-Rama and AWANA Olympics. Many children and adults have come to know Christ as their personal Savior as a result of the AWANA program. The impact of this program for Christ is immeasurable!

The Brian Gibson Award
Brian Matthew Gibson was born on May 27, 1988, and trusted Christ as his personal Savior on August 12, 1994, at six years of age. When we began our AWANA program, Brian was a Kindergarten Spark. From that time until his going home to Heaven, on October 16, 1999, he had memorized over 200 verses of Scripture. At church, school and home it was evident by Brian's life that he had a heart that longed to please God. And he did.

In honor of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and in memory of the life and testimony of Brian Gibson, we annually present the AWANA Clubber of the Year Award. This award goes to the clubber who most exemplifies a Christ-like life. This includes but is not limited to: faithful attendance, scripture memorization, participation, effort and cooperation."
